HELP! My hair is on fire!

Picture the scene; I was sat at home at 11pm, exhausted after a 10 hour shift at work, having a casual (yes, casual!) argument with my Mum, when disaster struck! POOF… my hair caught fire! We nearly had to call a fire engine and EVERYTHING!

Ok, I lie. I just had a slight disagreement with some hair dye. However, I really was sat at home at 11pm, after a ten hour shift, and I really did have a casual discussion/arguement with my Mum… that was not a lie.
Anyway, I bought the Live Color XXL in Red Passion 43 (click) nearly a year ago now, I’ve just never had the guts to dye it. I dyed my hair once before, a mahogany colour, but I stripped that out (twice!) last May. Anyway, I finally decided to man up and do it, so at 11.30pm I was mixed up and ready to go! Needless to say, by gone midnight I was all dyed up and dried off and I was disappointed… Instead of being bright red, like it was supposed to come out, I ended up dark red. Plus, it turns out that I still had dye in my hair from when I dyed it last year, so my hair goes from a darkish red at the top and blends into to a reddish colour with an orangy hue about half-way down. Don’t get me wrong, I like it… but my OCD does not allow something to NOT go to plan! :P Now I don’t quite know what to do, because I want it to be a brighter red! I don’t know whether to strip it (which will take a lot, because red is bloomin’ hard colour to fully remove) or get a really bright dye to put on top of it, OR get the same dye, and attempt to dye the orangish parts which could potentially go very wrong… :S Any ideas?
Oh, I have a picture! The flash makes my hair look much brighter than it is in the left hand photo, and more gingery in the right hand photo but you get the idea! My hair is all messed up and everything cos I was dressed as a cavegirl for a night out celebrating my friends 19th birthday. ;P Read More to see pictures

Anyway, I leave you with (yet another) article: Want 80,000 hits a day? Here’s how!

I actually like you hair – i’ve always wanted to dye my hair a redish color, coz I think it looks really cool, but never had the guts! I’ve got redish/brown highlights thoguh, which I really like.. until they end up halfway down my head, and end up looking weird…

i had a friend who accidently mixed up dyes with an older dye that was already in his hair.. he ended up with this disgusting green colored hair… it was really strange!

wow, never realised that they could be wrong… I tried logging into my cpanel to see if I could check out my stats, and they don’t exist for feb..? it’s really strange – they have all the stats for Januray, but nothing for feb… lol

you should still enter! I tweet about it, along with a few other people, pretty much everyday! plus i can always remind you to enter :) hehe (it’s part of my job as staff to convince people to enter) :P

and i’m doing ok.. I just have wayyyy too much work :(

I’ve had the same problem with dying my hair red..it never seemed bright enough :P If you want to try and make it brighter red try the real red one of the live colours. If you want a (sortof) semi permanent red thats uber bright you could try a manic panic dye. I love their dyes, I’m thinking of adding some highlights of electric lizard green or the electric lava again. I put sortof semi permanent because I had the blue for ages and it hardly faded :)
        Hope this helps :)

Omg I read your entry and then I was like OHLORD , then I read the rest of it and was like hehehe. I think red hair is hot! I used to dye my hair red all the time until I switched to the burgundy look

Haha, reading the first few lines, I was like “woah!!” scared me a bit.
I personally have never used hair dye. Don’t think I will at least until I start popping grey hairs. lol. Besides I think I would look totally weird with dyed hair. Asians can only have black hair. That is. And besides it’s so hard to dye! My friend at a party last year, wanted to put purple highlights in my hair. You couldn’t even see them! >.<
So, can't give any suggestions. :(

I am oh so glad that your hair did not catch actual fire, as that would have given you an even tougher challenge to overcome xD

I like how your hair turned out. The only 2 times I’ve tried to dye my hair, and by that, I really just mean streaks, you could barely see it. My hair is so dark and we didn’t add bleach, so obviously, that was bound to happen. I can’t really give you advice on the subject because of my horrible luck with dying my hair. (the first time we accidentally knocked it over and spilled it across the bathroom floor at the church we were staying at for the missions trip. We almost didn’t get it up. That was a bad night for us.)

i never had a 19th birthday party =/ in fact, I haven’t been to a birthday party in ages. But that sounds cool, you remind me of Wilma Flinstone xD haha

I had a similar problem when dying my hair red. I still had some black towards the end of my hair and I just couldn’t dye over it. My hair was meant to come out really red, but it only looked slightly red at the roots. The bottom half was still completely black.
In the end I admitted defeat and went to the hairdressers to get it done properly. They managed to dye over the black and then all of my hair was red. :) I didn’t even have to strip any colour to get it to go even.
I guess if you can’t get it to go right if you try again, you could just do that. Good luck with it though. Hope you manage to get it the colour that you want.

Softball definitely isn’t a chore for me but it takes up so much time & energy like how on Saturday I have to be at my school at five thirty in the morning to leave for a tournament. That pretty much takes up my whole weekend but I know I’m going to have fun (:

I get so nervous when I dye my hair cause I get so afraid that it’s going to turn out really bad. I really hate when it doesn’t turn out the color you want, it’s frustrating d: Your hair looks great though (: I could never pull off red like that.

JaneAusten, French Script MT, Gigi, Harlow Solid Italic, Kunstler Script, Rage Italic, Vivaldi, Vladimir Script
It could be any one of those, depending on which is the first you have on your computer. And yep. Well, technically, I just do font: 12px Font Name; because I’m lazy and I can never remember if it’s font-family or font-face for the css or the tags, and so I just do font. And thank you.(: When I have layout block, my layouts usually end up looking like my previous one. It’s not bad, but I don’t like it much and it didn’t differ all too much from the one before it. This would be my 9th one since I opened a year ago.

I know what you mean. I hate having sites that haven’t been updated in months on my sidebar, but I just can’t bring myself to remove them. Especially if I’m still listed right there, clear as day on their page. Bahh. Why must people have lives? :p

Haha, I started neopets the year it came out. Then I stopped until like 8th grade and 9th grade is when I got into all that design. Back then it was much easier to code… not now when the coding rules change ever 5 seconds Dx< It aggravates me to no end. Oh yes, they have changed their coding rules once again. Suck.

Wow. Really adore your site. And your hair. Haha, I would give suggestions but I’d rather your hair stayed how it was so I’m just going to be stubborn and not give you any ideas… Well plus I have no idea what I’m talking about when it comes to these maintenance things ;), but yeah… Keep up the good work chica.

i’ve always been scared to do something with my hair, but this summer i’ve decided i’m going to dye it, i really want a change!! (: i actually like your hair (: but if you think it ended up too dark, you should try to dye it lighter? haha i have no idea, i’ve never dyed my hair so i don’t have any tips or ideas, sorry i couldn’t be to any help.

                        thank you! (:

                          Oxidizing agents are usually hydrogen peroxide, and the alkaline environment is usually provided by ammonia. The combination of hydrogen peroxide and the primary intermediate causes the natural hair to be lightened, providing a “blank canvas” for the dye. Ammonia opens the hair shaft pores so that the dye can actually bond with the hair and speeds up the reaction of the dye with the hair.;;
